The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 北川景子真是漂亮。
菅田这么阳光如何也演不出色男渣男的气质啊...初始也不是很懂淑子为什么会这么深爱这个又赌又酗的男人，搭上自己一辈子过得真的很苦，但看第二遍时有点懂了。淑子是被年少泽田的才气折服，所以拒绝好男人寺新只是一门心思的跟着这个倔强的男人去乡下。一个女人只有深爱一个男人的时候，才能无怨无悔的献上自己一生。这个赌了一生的男人终于在老年靠自己的剧本扬眉吐气，可即便到了最后也是为了跟心中仰慕的女演员一起，结束了一生。多少有点讽刺，虽然感激淑子，但泽田的真爱其实还是园子吧...
结尾有点怪，但还是会被老爷子感动到。
“看电影不是用脑子，是用心的。”电影一直是他的爱与痛呢，导演真是既温柔又残忍。

故事只能算是山田的平庸之作，不过作为松竹百年献映的命题之作，《电影之神》非常难得，全片处处可见致敬和缅怀。电影之神是什么？是蕴藏在内心的情怀以及落寞中对电影的执著之爱。
剧情很俗套且充满着自我感动，像男主这种混蛋人设，导演还妄想用所谓“电影之神”的情怀来打动观众吗？如果没有菅田将晖压根不会看。
