The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 很简单的一个故事，但是完成度非常高。最后悲剧结尾，情感渲染也很到位。
俗套的故事，但西部片就有这股子狠劲，抓人！
节奏明快，剧情略简单，很老派，还算值得一看
画面的气质比想象中没有那么西部片，至少地点放在西部。

全片简洁不拖沓，最后的枪战有种回到老西部片的感觉。不过西部片真的没落了，也只能挖些老素材拍了。
不相信有救赎，能在其他人和事情上找到慰藉就很好了

别被评分骗了，基本就是个沉闷的文艺片，节奏缓慢拖沓，剧情故作玄虚，只有结尾十几个人围着屋子枪战，经典主角光环，反派死于话多，十几个人近距离愣是打不中主角，被主角一一收拾。另外感觉主角这儿子肯定隔壁老王生的，无论外形性格都完全不对路子。
非常Pure的西部体验，追踪、枪战，足矣。
再次证明我是西部片爱好者。最后反转和老爹跟儿子吐露真情，结尾救回来了，但前面还是太闷了。摄影配乐美，一直觉得虽然老爹是titular tole，但父子关系才应该是重点，果然最后片尾曲绝了。还说很适合改成Scruggs里的一个短片，果然男主也演了Scruggs，真是一张西部片脸。又收获美貌弟弟一枚，期待弟弟演技继续进步多露脸！
这电影前半部分多不错，干净利落，败笔全在最后的反转啊。①老亨利前面杀人那么的干脆利落，怎么会被一个受伤的翻拍追着给击伤了？枪战之后，居然放松了警惕，跟人设不符啊。②最后才发现那人胳膊上有标志。说明，老亨利以前就知道黑社会的人身上总有一些什么奇怪的标志的。那么，作为江湖老手，刚把这个人救回来的时候，难道不应该对其全身进行检查吗？如此警惕性高的人，居然被忽悠了。。③前面杀人的片段确实看得很爽，也把老亨利的人设给立住了，但后面的死实在的窝囊透顶了。。④既然老亨利都已经放弃江湖恩怨十几年了，打算安享晚年了，从他不让儿子学习射击就可以看出来，不想参合进江湖恩怨之中，那是铁了心的，为何开始还会去救那个人呢？？？⑤老亨利如此厉害的人设，养了这么一个白痴一样的儿子？

西部片背景的《小人物》，最后的枪战还是很可以的，很“西部”！
4星。很酷，在父亲节和父母一起看的父亲的电影
这个时代的电影西部片很难得了，就连剧本故事，甚至儿子的选角都在告诉我们西部片属于已经过去的那个年代，质感不错，配乐不错，很有味道。
原以为是一部类似《小人物》那样的影片，但实际观影感受完全不一样，这就不是一部爽片，跟《小人物》风格完全不同。影片的前70分钟节奏比较慢，但后20多分钟老爸大展神威，只是最后比利小子还是被狼暗算了。我说不上喜欢这部片子，但必须承认质量不错。我给4星7.4分！
节奏是比较慢，名字以及设定开头便会知道最终结果是老亨利肯定要牛逼一把，至于怎样牛逼一把就是这个电影的重中之重。后半段还算精彩，没有令人失望。妆化是这个电影的另外闪光点。
作品很西部，比较复古，确实在流行炫技立新的当下，这样的作品并不多见。
又一部细腻、丰满、深沉、张力十足的西部片。前面压节奏徐徐展开，各种细节铺垫、营造出内敛而愈趋紧张的氛围，几乎没有配乐却难掩紧张不安、蓄满了“山雨欲来风满楼”之势。最后对决干净利落，怜子之情自然流露，揭示老亨利的真实身份的同时给片子增添了些许温情与悲壮色彩。近期难得的佳片。
