The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 网飞能用大数据算法砸钱拍爆米花动作片，就也可以同样套路地拍合家欢节庆片。去年的那部虽然是拉拉情侣但家庭戏处理太糟，这一次同样pc的亚男配白女，但显然剧本上稳妥了很多。白眼虽然还是没少翻，但也可以打发时间看一下。
我明白为什么斯皮尔伯格一定要拍它了，对于儿时的他来说真的太过私密了，如果在不趁着现在拍出来，以后他既没精力更没机会了。大师的手笔拍出来的极具光影的质感和精彩绝伦的编排让这部电影更加勃勃生机，包括政治正确的外表也让它更贴近当下，但是它的内核就是老白男的雄性故事。斯如果改了就不是西区故事里，但是其中的表达太过于落后这个时代了，你如果硬找里面的先进性也是属于50年代的，放到现在也算不上多前卫，斯导老了，有一个真正属于他自己的童年追忆给我们看也许并不是坏事，失望算不上，但至少不够多惊喜吧
爱情至上也应该有点基本逻辑吧，被爱情冲昏头脑到可以弑亲的程度，什么价值观啊。
影片文本改编于《罗密欧与朱丽叶》，然而故事却很难让人喜欢起来，尤其是女主角玛丽亚被爱蒙蔽，错把昏聩当纯情，极易让观众引起不适。

“要打去练舞室打”moment come true!!! 斗舞clip莫多莫多。花样百出的布景、眼花缭乱的运镜、应接不暇的走位、行云流水的调度，配上莫名其妙的剧情。如此平庸的故事，实在是杀鸡焉用牛刀。

爆米花爱情故事。周末吃完午饭看个温暖的小片子还是挺好的。
这部电影真的很好的诠释了亚裔男性在北美约会市场的现状。好莱坞近年慢慢加入了越来越多的亚裔电影主角，但是还远远不够，从无到有起码用了整整一百年吧，从华裔的视角出发看了还是很有感触的。
改编得很不错，在音乐剧原作的基础上，加入作为一部电影可以加的全部：宏大的舞台背景，沉浸式运镜，复杂走位的群舞，每个人的近景及心理描述 —— 尽力地在细节上让故事线充盈。电影节奏控制到位，让音乐与舞蹈自然融入台词中，很少有音乐剧电影常见的“一言不合就开唱”的违和感。电影还大量融入西班牙语对白，并且不配字幕，把语言间的隔阂与交融坦白呈现。遗憾就是男女主角之间不管是对唱还是对舞都毫无火花，让原本放在当代视角已不甚合理的一见钟情式故事线显得更不可信。主线没有撑起来，全靠支线找补。

男主rif对比老版毫无男性气概，声音又难听，鲨鱼帮老大也不如老版的有气质。实在是年度翻拍灾难。

我向《安奈特》道歉！当年在百老汇看就睡着了，这次看我旁边的disastrous date睡着了。我就想问问你们是如何共情boomer白男和puterico墨男打架搞女人的， 歌也是难听的要死，舞技主演属于张牙舞爪，唯一一颗星是多给群演和西语演员的。真的就算不共情，歌舞片无沉浸感刚要渐入佳境就开始讲话，我真还不如去看西贡小姐。
